Saying goodbye to "Old Betsy"

To contact us Click HERE

Our family said goodbye to the van - which we lovingly referred to as " Old Betsy" - this week. To make a long story short, it was totaled after my dad and I were involved in a car accident a few weeks ago. We are both fine, only suffering minor bruises. Where does that leave us then? You guessed it- searching for a new van! If you are a disabled reader, you probably know what a difficult process that can be; not only do you have to look for a vehicle that fits the measurements of your wheelchair ( which is not an easy task, considering in Virginia it is preferred that you point straight forward ) but you have to figure out transportation in the meantime.I guess I'm lucky in that I have a wheelchair at both my apartment and my parent 's, so when I come to visit it's not that difficult. But still. One can't help but feel guilty that they have to carry me to the car whenever I want to go anywhere . The latest bit of news is that paperwork needs to be signed on the new vehicle we
found; it will take 2 to 3 days for the vehicle to be driven down from Pittsburgh. Then, it's another full day in the shop getting the lock down installed

How are you feeling today?? Focused on your disability?? Holly's Heart will make you think twice!!

Welcome Back Readers~

I'm sorry I haven't been around lately..   We have a lot going on around our house, including going to Baltimore to get the new van-so I can finally get around-and having guests visit. Anyway, I'm not really making excuses for not writing: however I have been doing a lot of thinking and writing that here would have been counterproductive....

Let's just say it's a constant struggle trying to keep everything together and running smoothly. From roommate issues to agency difficulties, something is always there reminding me I have a disability..

So, on this Friday, I just happened across this video! What do you think about Holly's point? If we have God in our lives, should we or should we not struggle with identity issues? That's what's on my mind today!

Personal Update On My Life; My Opinion on Sundance Channel's Push Girls

To contact us Click HERE
Welcome back Everyone~
I know I haven't been around lately; but late has certainly kept me busy. I find myself on the phone most of the time in an effort to keep up my independence; however, my parents have needed to help out more than I like ... I'm grateful, but I know that things are getting tougher for them and they have other things they would like to be doing.

Thus, the constant battle continues..

Speaking of battle for independence, I came across this interesting show on Sundance called Push Girls featuring several women in wheelchairs. Unlike me, most of their injuries were caused by car accidents and other situations. Although the show is very much focused on disability advocacy and knowing oneself, I was slightly put off by it. I don't know why. Maybe it's because on the first show, they seemed to really focus on the physical appearance of the people.... And not really their struggle. As Tiphany Put it somewhat like this, "Most People consider the disabled not really concerned with how they look, having food on their clothes..."

I don't know about you, but I'm offended by this.. I like to consider myself attractive, in a modest sort of way.. In terms of the food, well, sometimes I can't help it. That's the way it is with CP!

Anyway, maybe you can catch an encore of the show and let me know what you think! For more information, you can go to their website at: www.SundanceChannel.com/pushgirls

Some 2012 Olympians Step into the Spotlight for More Than Just Talent!

To contact us Click HERE
Everyone has those moments that they will never forget of the Olympics.. For example, there was the time the Magnificent Seven won the gold in Women's Gymnastics during the last Olympics.. Or the time where Keri Strug landed on a injured ankle during her vault to help secure the victory..

These are all moments that make you want to stand up and cheer for the
Olympians and make me especially proud to be an American! However, there are moments that surpass these and challenge you to be better than you are. I had one of those while watching the Women's All-Around Gymnastics Final. Not only was I surprised at how Jordan Weibercheered for her teammate, Aly from the stands even though she may have wishedshe could be there also... Such camaraderie and compassion, I have never seenthroughout a competition!

But even more important, the courage it takes to stand firm for what you believe while being in the spotlight. At this point, you probably know who I am talking about-Gabby Douglas. When she could have taken all the praise for winning gold, she gave all the credit to God, saying "Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never
forget the good he does for me. The glory up to Him, and the blessings fall
down on me."

It's About a Relationship

To contact us Click HERE

All month I've been sharing about Compassion International and the wonderful ministry that they have around the world. I'm not lying when I tell you that this is the best money that we spend each and every month. It's a non-negotiable line item in our personal budget, and we will sacrifice in other areas if money gets tight.

The assignment this week is to blog from the point of view of a sponsored child. Instead of blogging as though I were a sponsored child (which I kind of did last week - here & here), I thought I'd let you hear directly from our sponsored kids. These are excerpts from actual letters that we have received from Bob Gloria since we began sponsoring them. We have a notebook where we keep all of their letters, pictures, and any other correspondence about them that we receive from Compassion, so it was easy to find bits and pieces for this post. I had a great time re-reading their letters and seeing how much they've grown!

I greet you in the name of Jesus. How are you? I love you and I hope you are fine. I pray for you and your family often. Please pray for me as a try to study the Bible every day.

I want to thank you for the school fees you gave me. In our school, we are studying hard. I like to play dodge ball with my friends. I did well in school and was promoted. Please pray for me as I start a new school term.

My family is fine and doing well but my grandmother has now gone back to the village and now I live with my aunt. I am now 13 years old and next year I will be 14. I want to grow up and be a lawyer and also help the needy.

I call you my father and mother because you care for me so much. I love you all so much. Thank you for the letter you sent. I love it and it makes me happy as I read it. It also makes me happy that I have loving parents like you. I love you.

Love, Gloria
I greet you in the name of Jesus Christ who died for our sins. I hope you are doing fine as I am doing in Uganda.

I have two brothers and a sister. I am the second born. My father died a long time ago when I was a young kid and our mother raised us a single parent.

I was so glad to get your pictures. You looked so beautiful like a queen and as the gentleman who looked so handsome.

I want to start a business and be self-employed. I also want to build my own house after school. And even I would like to start a music school where we will teach young people how to play musical instruments. Pray for me that I may get opportunities to study these courses please. Pray for me that God will let me accomplish my dreams.

May God's love shine on you all the days of your life.

Love, Bob
A few years ago at Catalyst, they interviewed Jimmy who was sponsored as a child in Kenya and is now attending Moody Bible Institute so he can become a pastor and serve the people of Kenya. I love this video because it really gets to the heart of why sponsors are so important. It's not just about the $38/month. It's about a relationship! May we be the kind of sponsors to Bob and Gloria that Mark was to Jimmy! (Because we're friends, I'm going to tell you that you may want a tissue handy.)

At the beginning of the month, the goal was to find sponsors for 3,108 children. As of today, we still need 534 sponsors. We only have a few days left. Will you become a sponsor?

Banned Books Week

To contact us Click HERE

So, it's Banned Books Week. Before I started book blogging, I didn't know that a whole week was devoted to talking about and reading banned books and encouraging people to speak out against censorship.

I've read some really interesting statistics this week about why books are challenged in the US. And the reasons why some books are challenged are just downright ridiculous. (The Vernon Verona Sherill School District in New York challenged To Kill a Mockingbird in 1980 because they thought it was a "filthy, trashy novel." Seriously? Have they even read the book?!) While some of the reasons for challenging or banning books seem good—like being sexually explicit, using offensive language or being excessive violence—I still don't think books should be banned. (I do however believe wholeheartedly in good parenting & making wise decisions for yourself where these things are concerned!)

Why don't I think books should be banned? Because the First Amendment guarantees us freedom of speech and freedom of religion, among other things. If we begin impeding on freedom of speech, how long will it be until we are no longer allowed the freedom of religion?

And if people start banning books for any reason, how long will it be before the Bible is banned or restricted in the United States as it is in many parts of the world?

As many are celebrating the freedom to read this week, I'm celebrating the freedom to read AND to worship by reading the Bible, one of the most challenged books in the world.

What about you? Thoughts on banning books? Favorite banned or challenged book? Ways you're celebrating the freedom to read?

About the Book
The war is over. The South has lost. Josephine Weatherly struggles to pick up the pieces of her life when her family returns to their Virginia plantation. But the realities of life after the war cannot be denied: her home and land are but a shell of their previous grandeur; death has claimed her father and brother; and her remaining brother, Daniel, has returned home bitter and broken.
Her life of privilege, a long-ago dream. Josephine soon realizes that life is now a matter of daily survival—and recognizes that Lizzie, as one of the few remaining servants, is the one she must rely on to teach her all she needs to know. Josephine's mother, too, vows to rebuild White Oak--but a bitter hatred fuels her.
Can hope—and a battered faith in God—survive amid the devastation?

My Thoughts
I'm not quite done reading this one yet, but it is SO GOOD! I'm not sure how I've missed out on Lynn Austin. I know she's won tons of awards and I've seen her books everywhere! Shame on me for not reading one until now! [Grin!]

All Things New is set in the weeks and months immediately following the end of the Civil War. Honestly, I've never really thought about what this time was like for the people who lived it. What if I was on the losing side of the Civil War? My father, brothers, and most of the men in my town died fighting for the side that lost. My home and property have been ransacked by the winners of the war. My slaves are now free—which means that we have no way to plant crops (and therefore no way to make money) and are having to do tasks that I always thought were menial before. I'm poor for the first time in generations. I'm not saying it's right. I just never thought about how it would feel before. I'm a Southern girl but always thought that surely I would have stood up for what was right and fought against slavery. But what if I hadn't? What if I didn't know that it was wrong? What if I was blinded by this sin that was now culturally acceptable? (Hmmm ... sounds like a lot of things that happen today!)

And what if was the slave who was now free? I'm thankful to have my family all in one place. Someone tells me that I'm free and I never have to worry about my husband or my children being sold to another owner. I can leave the plantation whenever I want, which is weird because I've never left the property before. My former owner now has to pay me a wage in return for the work I do for her. My children can go to school, and I'm learning how to read, write, and count for the first time.

This book is making me think like crazy, which is probably why I'm reading it a little slower than normal. It's just taking up so much mental energy! Ha! Seriously, though, Lynn Austin is a talented writer. In All Things New she switches back and forth between multiple viewpoints and does it in such a way that keeps me totally caught up in the story. The story alone is powerful, but Austin writes pulls me further in with every word. Talented, talented lady. I'm looking forward to reading more by Lynn Austin ... looks like I've got a few to catch up on!

I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House and CFBA in exchange for my fair and honest review.
About the Author
For many years, Lynn Austin nurtured a desire to write but frequent travels and the demands of her growing family postponed her career. When her husband's work took Lynn to Bogota, Colombia, for two years, she used the B.A. she'd earned at Southern Connecticut State University to become a teacher. After returning to the U.S., the Austins moved to Anderson, Indiana, Thunder Bay, Ontario, and later to Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Lynn resigned from teaching to write full-time in 1992. Since then she has published twelve novels. Five of her historical novels, Hidden Places, Candle in the Darkness, Fire by Night, A Proper Pursuit, and Until We Reach Home have won Christy Awards in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, and 2009 for excellence in Christian Fiction. Fire by Night was also one of only five inspirational fiction books chosen by Library Journal for their top picks of 2003, and All She Ever Wanted was chosen as one of the five inspirational top picks of 2005. Lynn's novel Hidden Places has been made into a movie for the Hallmark Channel, starring actress Shirley Jones. Ms Jones received a 2006 Emmy Award nomination for her portrayal of Aunt Batty in the film. Visit Lynn's website to learn more.

Relentless Pursuit
by Kathy Hearman
Secrets of Roux River series, Book 3
Christian Fiction / Suspense
Available May 2012
David C. Cook
400 pages

About the Book
Rich with the Cajun flavors of south Louisiana, this final book in the Secrets of Roux River Bayou Series is a story of what it means to find true peace in an uncertain world.

Sax Landry left home at seventeen to escape his father’s abuse, leaving his mother and sister to fend for themselves. Now, twenty-eight years later, both parents are dead, and guilt compels him to find his sister and make peace.  His search leads to Les Barbes, Louisiana, where authorities fear a bio-terrorist has injected cyanide into juice cartons and fresh produce at the grocery store.  People are dead. It’s not safe. Sax stays, fearing death less than living another day without peace. A divine appointment is about to change all that-forever.

My Thoughts
Relentless Pursuit by Kathy Herman was a solid conclusion to the Secrets of Roux River series. One of my favorite aspects of this series has been how the characters from previous books play such vital roles in subsequent ones. They’re not just fringe characters making spotty appearances. Instead, I felt like I really got to know them and saw how they grew, changed, and struggled throughout the entire series. Because of this, I would definitely recommend reading them in order (although you could probably catch up pretty quickly if you didn’t.)

Kathy is fairly unique in that she combines emotional family plots with tight, fast-paced suspense. The mystery around the cyanide poisoning was incredibly fascinating. Herman is a wonderful suspense writer, and I was thoroughly impressed with the intensity of this “case.” And because of this, I will definitely be on the lookout for more suspense from Kathy Herman in the future.

At times, I was annoyed by the repetitive nature of some of the conversations. I realize that the author was using this technique to show that the characters were really struggling with a particular issue, but at times it felt like the same conversation was merely pasted in multiple places in the book.

Overall, I truly enjoyed Kathy Herman’s latest offering. I’m a little sad to leave Les Barbes behind, but I know that wherever’s next will be just as good! [4 stars]

I received a free copy of this book from David C. Cook via Net Galley in exchange for my fair and honest review.

About the Book
Ann Silver is a cop's cop. As the Midwest Homicide Investigator, she is called in to help local law enforcement on the worst of cases, looking for answers to murder. Hers is one of the region's most trusted investigative positions.
Paul Falcon is the FBI's top murder cop in the Midwest. If the victim carried a federal badge or had a security clearance, odds are good Paul and his team see the case file or work the murder.
Their lives intersect when Ann arrives to pass a case off her desk and onto his. A car wreck and a suspicious death offer a lead on a hired shooter he is tracking. Paul isn't expecting to meet someone, the kind that goes on the personal side of the ledger, but Ann Silver has his attention.
The better he gets to know her, the more Paul realizes her job barely scratches the surface of who she is. She knows spies and soldiers and U.S. Marshals, and has written books about them. She is friends with the former vice president. People with good reason to be cautious about who they let into their lives deeply trust her. Paul wonders just what secrets Ann is keeping, until she shows him the John Doe Killer case file, and he starts to realize just who this lady he is falling in love with really is...

My Thoughts
I absolutely devoured the O'Malley and the Uncommon Heroes series when I read them several years ago. I couldn't read them fast enough, and Dee Henderson couldn't write them fast enough to suit me. [Grin!] After a six-year hiatus, I think it's safe to say that Henderson's Full Disclosure was one of the most talked about and highly anticipated books of the year. It was for me at least!

Unfortunately, I didn't feel like Full Disclosure lived up to the hype surrounding it's release. I never relish giving a less-than-positive review, but I don't think you can fully comprehend how much it pains me to write this kind of "negative" review for a book by a favorite author (or how much I wanted to absolutely love this book!).

For a book that was marketed as romantic suspense, I found it to be neither very romantic nor very suspenseful. The first half of the book moved along very slowly, and I had to force myself to continue reading. About halfway through the pace really picked up, and I (finally) became intrigued by the mystery for the last quarter of the book. Much of the book was moved along by lengthy sections of dialogue where the conversations were more speeches than actual back and forth between characters.

I liked the idea of focusing on characters who were a little older than the norm (40ish) and particularly a woman who was content in her singleness. Unfortunately, it was hard for me to connect with Ann. She was just too ... perfect. Her flaws were even couched in positive terms, and I found it highly annoying. In the later portion of the book, some of her struggles and fears came to light, but it was almost too late for me at that point. (Also, I'm not sure that Ann was really content in her singleness as much as she was terrified of marriage and the sacrifices required.)

The relationship between Ann and Paul was odd as well. Paul originally focused his attention on Ann by talking to all of her friends about her. I wanted to shake him and say, "If you want to get to know her, talk to her!" And when they finally got around to talking about their relationship, some of the conversations felt more like labor negotiations than personal, "how do we make this work" conversations. I know everything is not always romance and candy and flowers (I'm married after all!), but their relationship was just so stilted.

I think I could have moved past many of these "complaints"—especially as the pace and mystery picked up. The one thing I really couldn't get past, though, was the fact that Ann wrote all of Dee's books. It really threw me for a loop, and I had a hard time distinguishing fact from fiction. So, Ann is Dee? Or Dee is Ann? Or Ann has some of Dee's characteristics? But Ann (as Dee?) wrote all of Dee's books? It was confusing and strange, and every time it was mentioned it pulled me completely out of the story. I would try to wrap my mind around it and then move past it, and then it was mentioned again and my head started spinning again. Perhaps readers who have not read any of Dee's previous books won't find this so strange, but I just couldn't get past it.

I'm glad I stuck with it and finished the book, as the last half was the best part. However, I was still disappointed by the book as a whole. I'm hopeful that Henderson will be able to recapture that quality for excellent storytelling that she has demonstrated in the past and continue to wow readers for years to come. [2.5 stars]

I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House and CFBA in exchange for my fair and honest review.

The Southern Foodie shows you where the South eats and how to create those distinct flavors at home. You’re sure to rediscover old favorites and get a closer look at the delicious new traditions in Southern cuisine.

My Thoughts
Being a southern gal, I can tell you I know southern food, so I was excited to receive The Southern Foodie by Chris Chamberlain for review. Some of the recipes featured are true southern dishes while others could better be classified as "fancy" southern cooking. Regardless, though, my husband and I found lots of new dishes we would like to try out and plenty of restaurants that we will be visiting in the future.

I love the page-long introductions to each restaurant. They provide an initial description and alert visitors to dishes that are not to be missed. Each intro also provides hints about the type of cuisine, atmosphere, specialties, and insider tips.

The Southern Foodie is the perfect addition to any foodie's cookbook collection and would make a wonderful gift. [4 stars]

I received a free copy of this book from Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze program in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by MizB on her blog Should Be Reading. Hop over for details or to link up!

If she moved, would she die? Serena Hopkins kept her eyes shut and lay as still as possible in the king-size bed, doing her best to keep her breathing even.

Which was becoming more impossible by the second.

As her fear increased, so did the rate of her heartbeat and respirations.

Was he still there? (p. 7)

So ... this is how the book starts. Talk about intense, right?! I started and finished the book in the same day, so rest assured it was fantastic! My review will be posted tomorrow as part of the blog tour hosted by Revell. :)

Deadly Reunions series, Book 2
Christian Fiction / Contemporary / Suspense / Romance
Available October 2012
Revell
336 pages

About the Book
A killer's deadly game needs new players . . . but someone's about to change the rules

As a medical examiner, Serena Hopkins is used to dealing with death. But that doesn't make it any easier when she's called to the eerie scene of a murder--especially when Serena realizes that she knows the victim. Nearly as unnerving is the presence of FBI agent Dominic Allen, her childhood crush.

As evidence mounts and points to a serial killer with disturbingly familiar methods, Serena and Dominic must work to find a pattern and stop the killings before the murderer strikes again. And when Serena's own life seems at stake, she must decide if the secret she has been keeping has put her next on the killer's hit list. Can she trust Dominic with the truth before it's too late?

My Thoughts
Lynette Eason writes the kind of suspense I love to read! When a Heart Stops is fast-paced, intense, and even has a bit of the creepy factor (or a lot of the creepy factor). Plus, it's sweet and romantic ... pretty much all the things I love in a great book. It should be no surprise then that I literally could not put this book down. I started it early one morning and finished it about eight hours later—stopping only briefly to eat lunch, wash a few dishes, and say hello to my husband.

When a Heart Stops is clearly the second book in a series as one story line is a continuation from the previous book (and there are definitely some loose ends at the end of this one). However, the author does a great job of bringing readers along in the story so you don't feel lost or confused. I was also pleasantly surprised that I never figured out "whodunit." I was suspicious of nearly everyone in the book at one point or another but never figured it out. :) I'm definitely going back to read Eason's other books and can't wait for the conclusion of this series! [4.5 stars]

I received a free copy of this book from Revell in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Available October 2012 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

The (Not-So) Lazy Last Days of Summer

To contact us Click HERE
My visit to Connecticut was great, though restful only in tiny spots. Instead of leisurely sitting on the terrace as I expected on the first day, we went to the beach. What a treat! I love the beach, especially the Connecticut shore -- Old Lyme and Old Saybrook area -- where I spent lots of very happy hours growing up. I don't get there very often and I haven't been to any beach at all this summer, so this was a wonderful surprise. After I met my friend Lonni in New Haven she asked if I wanted to go to the beach. I don't think ten seconds went by before I said yes.
This is the photo I tried to post on Saturday from my phone. The post came through, but without the photo.
Lonni's friends were so gracious. We took a quick trip to Old Saybrook, did a little art and gift shopping and tried the new frozen yogurt store. After our beach visit, we sat in the backyard, puppies at our feet, tuna and chicken on the grill, and blueberry pie for dessert. Is there a sweeter end of summer evening?

This is the front yard of the house we were visiting. I didn't see it at the time, but autumn is definitely on the way. Summer, please stay a few more weeks. It's getting dark too soon for my taste.
The rest of the weekend flew by. We shopped, ate (all delicious, but way too much!) and chatted, as only friends of very longstanding -- 50+ years -- can do. I am tired, but delighted that I was able to physically do the trip and have such a good time. I hope your weekends were equally enjoyable.
And now the question on my mind...How can it possibly be September 3? As I ask every year, where did summer go?

I'd Like to be Your

Instagram Buddy! How about it?

My friends, I am head over heels in love. It took months, but what started as "just friends" has progressed to full fledged love.
What is Instagram? It's a photo sharing and editing application for cell phones and it is really, really fun.
I took a workshop in the winter on learning to use Instagram. It was nearby, it was free and I thought it would be fun. At that time Instagram was only available for the iPhone, which I didn't have. I thought it was interesting, but not something that I was especially excited about. Sometime in the spring it became available for android phones and I downloaded it. I didn't do much with it until a few weeks ago. I started to experiment with it and liked the different editing tools that were available. I was pleased with the photos I was taking with my phone and enjoyed sharing them on facebook. As I began to use Instagram I began to get feedback from friends and strangers, and I've really enjoyed seeing my friends' photos and those of people I've met on Instagram.
If anyone else is an Instagram fan I am buttercupnyc and I'd like to be your Instagram buddy!

Yours Sweetly!

As of yesterday afternoon this looked like a quiet, but fun weekend. Tomorrow I planned to be at services in the morning and see a movie with my friend, Mary, later in the day. My plan for Sunday was to get a pedicure -- using the gift certificate I won at BlogHer -- read the NY Times and go blog visiting. In between there is the usual laundry and grocery shopping and cooking for the week. Then I saw a note on facebook that one of my all-time favorite confections was celebrating its 100th anniversary in New York City tomorrow afternoon.  I'm still going to go to services and see a movie with Mary, but tomorrow afternoon is a sweet fun celebration.

I'm omitting the name of the candy until tomorrow when I post pictures, but I am so excited to celebrate my favorite Nashville food find. No names yet, but can anyone guess this venerable and terrific Tennessee candy? No prize, but the winner gets a special mention on tomorrow's blog post.

Hopes for a sweet, sweet weekend throughout Buttercupland!

"Making Wrinkled and Lumpy Fashionable Since 1912" How can I not love this candy?
I moved to Nashville in the late summer of 1972 to attend graduate school at Vanderbilt. I was a Northern girl and I had never been further south in the United States than Mount Vernon. I couldn't afford a trip from Connecticut to Nashville to visit before I enrolled, so with a suitcase and my electric typewriter I boarded a plane to Nashville, a place I only knew from the graduate school catalogue and legend. I know I must have been scared, but I only remember being excited at seeing the highway sign for Louisville/St. Louis. This was going to be an adventure.
I learned to love Nashville, barbecue and Goo Goo Clusters. I had no idea about the Goo Goo Clusters venerable history, I only knew they were delicious. They incorporated caramel, peanuts, milk chocolate and marshmallow nougat. I would eat one and think that "how did they know I liked all of these things put all together." That thought, my blog buddies, is the key to the Goo Goo Cluster, "the first retail confection to be mass produced with multiple elements." They've come a long way since 1912, with the addition of the Supreme, which features pecans and the Peanut Butter Goo Goo Cluster, which is the ideal candy for those of us who like peanut butter and chocolate. They are all yummy, but I got a little thrill today from the classic Goo Goo Cluster. I've had some very fancy candy since tasting my first Goo Goo Cluster in 1972, but few sweets that just hit the spot like a Goo Goo.
The birthday party was fun, a lot of fun, including Goo Goo samples and a terrific band. I couldn't think of a happier way to spend time on a Saturday afternoon.  Happy Birthday!
My blog buddy, Denise, who writes a terrific blog, "Yes, Virginia, There is Life after Retirement" guessed that the featured candy was the Goo Goo Cluster. I'm not sure if she has Nashville roots, but she writes a wise and witty blog, so I am not a bit surprised at her range of knowledge including the Goo Goo.
I only hope I'm going as sweet and strong as my beloved Goo Goo Cluster when I turn 100. Goo Goo, it's your day and here's to you!

Just the Day for a Cup of Coffee

To contact us Click HERE
Between five o'clock last night and seven o'clock the temperature went from summer to fall. Just like that! I went inside at five and I was comfortable in a t-shirt and jeans. At seven when I came outside I needed a sweater, which I didn't have with me. Today it's chilly and rainy and I wasn't a bit too hot in a rain slicker. I skipped my usual iced coffee and enjoyed a cup of hot coffee. I think a lot of folks were savoring cups of hot coffee and just in time for coffee savoring are the five winners of the National Coffee Day giveaway. There were seventy seven entrants and five winners, picked randomly from little slips of paper. Not scientific, but it works in Buttercupland.

The grand prize winner is Betty Rubble, who will receive a box of Nescafe Memento, a coupon for a bottle of natural bliss and a coffee cup coaster. Susie, Saturday Night Fever, Kendrah and Kathy Pease will be receiving a coupon for a bottle of natural bliss. I'm having trouble linking to the posts, but I will be emailing this evening to get everyone's address. Thanks, all, for leaving your comments. I've found some great new blogs and am so appreciative of everyone visiting Buttercupland. This was the first October giveaway and there will be two more this month. I will post the next one tomorrow -- another yummy giveaway! -- and I hope there will be lots of visitors.

Please stop by and visit A Rural Journal for the weekly Sunday Best photographs. I will be adding a favorite phone of mine for this week and it's a wonderful group of bloggers.

Wishes for a very sweet week!

To contact us Click HERE

January 1, 2012 - December 31, 2012

I just finished reading the first book in the Sisters of the Heart series and loved it so much that I decided to turn it into a reading challenge!
The books in the Sea Haven Reading Challenge are comprised of two different series: the Drake Sisters and the Sisters of the Heart. Since the Sisters of the Heart series appears to be a spin-off of the Drake Sisters series, it would probably be best to start with that one first.
The Sea Haven novels by Christine Feehan are:
  1. Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters, Book #1)
  2. The Twilight Before Christmas (Drake Sisters, Book #2)
  3. Oceans of Fire (Drake Sisters, Book #3)
  4. Dangerous Tides (Drake Sisters, Book #4)
  5. Safe Harbor (Drake Sisters, Book #5)
  6. Turbulent Sea (Drake Sisters, Book #6)
  7. Hidden Currents (Drake Sisters, Book #7)
  8. Water Bound (Sisters of the Heart, Book #1)
  9. Spirit Bound (Sisters of the Heart, Book #2)
Here are the challenge details:

1. The challenge will run from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012. You can join the challenge at any time, whether you haven't yet started the series or are already halfway through. As the challenge host, I reserve the right to extend the challenge period!

2. This challenge can cross-over to your other reading challenges.

3. You do not need a blog to participate! If you are not a blogger, you can post your reviews at Goodreads, Shelfari, or LibraryThing and link them up here.

4. All formats of books are acceptable: Bound copies, e-books, and audiobooks (as long as they are unabridged).

5. There will be link-ups for your reviews on a quarterly basis, which will be posted on THIS page.

6. There will be a link for your wrap-up post at the end of the year.

7. Create a sign-up post and link back to this post. Sign up with Mister Linky below! Be sure to use the direct url to your sign-up post and not the url to your blog.

8. Grab the challenge button and post it in your sidebar.
